Now there are five as we travel to Miami. We left this afternoon at 3:30, i was the first to be picked up, then the two sisters and finally Dr. D's daughter from Subway.
I was happy to know the resident DJ had my similar taste in music: Death Cab...Sufjan Stevens... Damien Rice along with a few bands i had not heard of before. About an hour and a half in we stopped at Fanning Springs at the mouth of the Suwannee River. Great rest stop! We took pictures and got all the way to the shore. I am taking pictures with my Uncle Dennis' 35 mm SLR camera so pictures won't be available until i get back and upload them to a digital CD.
"Suburban" Florida is just as i expected it to be and at the same time all together different than driving through the familiar Georgia and the Carolinas. Relatively flat, it has your usual stops in the usual small town shops. The same rusty water towers and one pump gas stations. It's different because of the simultaneous mix between palm trees and sycamores. I think this closeness between fun and relaxation and real life reminds me of Martha's Vineyard. Floridians are never too far from water by way of lakes, rivers, springs, the gulf coast or the Atlantic. So how do you draw the line between business and fun in such a vacation themed spot?
I don't know, maybe it's the sad fact that real life trumps everything else. Bills still need to be paid, work must be done and with experience bringsabout new challenges.
I really like this dichotomy and maybe after these years i spend in Florida i'll understand what it's like.
Right now, we're on the wrong road and the moon is already peeking through the lazy blue and white sky. Harvested trees line the road. 250 miles from Miami, and we're listening to a band called "Yeysayer"checkout the song "Sunrise".
